WHAT
RE: International Monster Day, Zombie Walks, and any other related events/ ideas.
Hello,
If you appreciate the "darker side"/ creations of such, picking which events to go to can be a hard decision. Here is some information that may help in the future, and a reminder to myself.
While doing research into local/ semi-local Zombie Walks, I found myself pondering how/ if I may attend, and how much information I could find for each. Some questions (Qs) that came to mind with my observances, included the variations of "bonus" offerings that may/ may not be included in each city's events.
My 5 ASPECTS, & Qs:
1. CITY
~ Which one? ~ Address, travel need, and how? ~ Arrangements to make ahead of time? (ex. T.O.)
+
2. WHEN
~ Date & Time? ~ Is my "schedule" free? ~ Weather, do I need to bring anything/ prepare?
+
3. ROUTE
~ How long is the Walk? ~ Is the route shown/ map? ~ Does it end where it starts/ state where it ends?
~ Any pit stops on the way? & ~ Can I physically do it/ make it to the bus or vehicle after?
+
4. WHAT
~ How long is the meet up time before the Walk? ~ Any BONUS features - like pit stops?
~ If BONUS features, is there a list/ details?
+
5. BONUS FEATURES
a) RE: Vendor opportunities: ~ Yes or no? ~ Pre-registration required? (ex. T.O.)
b) RE: Costume contest: ~ Yes or no? ~ Judging start time? ~ When/ How are the announcements done?
~ Make-up artist available? ~ Prizes - what are they?
c) RE: Pit stops: ~ Yes or no? - (may already be answered) ~ How many, and where for how long?
d) RE: After the Walk: ~ Movie/ party option? ~ If so when, where, and how long?
~ Address, travel need/ how?
e) RE: Any of the above: ~ Donations/ Fee?

MY OBSERVANCES, Qs, & IDEAS:
Possible improvements to certain aspects "out there"...
1. PARKING
~ Is it too far away for some local businesses to be discovered? This may deter any shopping if participants are too tired from the Walk's starting point.
~ Is it too far to walk back to for younger children, or those with walking difficulties? The Walks can be a good challenge, but too much if it's too far to the car afterwards. (^&~)
IDEAS:
a) If the parking had these additional options: ~ Available/ some supplied by local businesses on the route that are interested. Maybe this could help, without "congesting" the streets - Yes?
~ A shuttle service offered back to the vehicles for those in need (not all).
+
2. INFORMATION ACCESS
~ Can "late-comers" still find out information, after the event(s) have started?
Ex. A zombie wants to join the horde, but they have already left the starting/ meet up point.
~ Does more than 1 organizer/ "leader" know the event well - & How many?
Ex. Zombie Walk routes, time lengths, any after events.
~ Is there an event organizer/ "leader" hanging around for late-comers - & can they be found easily?
Ex. Zombie Walks: ~ Is there an organizer at the back of the group doing the Walk(s)?
& ~ Do all the organizers/ "leaders" have name/ event ID tags?
IDEAS:
~ Ensure that at least 3 organizers/ "leaders" are well informed/ "in the know", and can be easily recognized by some kind of event ID/ name tag.
~ Ensure that one organizer/ "leader" stays behind for the late-comers.
3. ANNOUNCEMENTS
~ Is all important information included?
Ex. Sometimes not all information is on the same piece of paper, or has not yet been received from all parties.
~ Can the announcer be heard over the crowd/ are there set announcement times?
IDEAS:
~ Ensure that all information is on one sheet from any/ all parties involved, and if needed in order of announcing.
~ Use a bull horn, or mega-phone to get the crowd's attention before any announcements. This may come in handy for both here and during the event(s).
~ Answering the "5 Ws" as best as possible in the event(s) information listing, include a map where applicable. As are most informative things in Life, it's best to try to keep it... 'Short, sweet, & complete!' (0827141145PMishC.E.S.)
4. MONSTER MASH
I LOVED that this aspect was added to the Cambridge Zombie Walk! Too bad there was no actual dance for them outside the traditional Zombie dance to the song "Thriller" by Micheal Jackson.
IDEAS:
~ Create/ "clone" the monster mash dance from the original song by Bobby Boris Pickett.
~ Offer the options & time, to enable participation of both dances during the Zombie Walk(s) - alternating perhaps.
~ Offer a costume contest with separate categories for the Monsters as well as the Zombies. This may encourage more participants.
